The Encouraging Better Practice in Aged Care Emerging Leaders Program, is a Federal Government funded program, under the auspices of the Department of Health and Ageing. The national project leader and Queensland coordinator is Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) in Brisbane.
Strategon is the South Australia coordinator, and Recovery Station has that role for New South Wales.
Ian Dunbar was selected to facilitate the NSW pilot program, with Jo Boylan facilitating in SA.
Four NSW Registered Aged Care Providers (RACPs) took part in the pilot program: ELSS, Hawkins Masonic Village, Maroba and Strathearn; with Ian facilitating the six workshops that make up the program:
Client-Centred Care and Reflective Practice
Workplace Change and Innovation
Working Within the Legislative Requirements
The pilot program ran from May to October 2013, with each RACP undertaking a change/improvement project specific to their organisation, in addition to the workshops. All participants also undertook Harrison Assessment as part of the program.
DoHA and MSIT will collate the results and outcomes from all three states, with a view to rolling out an ongoing, national program later in 2014.
